About Meditation

“The primary purpose of meditation is to become conscious of, and familiar with, our inner life. The ultimate purpose is to reach the source of life and consciousness.” Nisargadatta Maharaj, Indian Mystic

What Is Meditation

Meditation is becoming more and more popular every day and with good reason. It’s a very popular practice but many people still don’t quite understand what meditation is all about and how it’s done.

At first glance, meditation might seem complicated and complex, but in reality it’s the exact opposite. The goal of meditation is to bring mindfulness to all that you do and to truly become present.

Still a bit confused about meditating? Let’s take a closer look….

When you meditate, one of the primary goals is to quiet the mind and simply live in the present. If you stop and think about this for a minute, I’m sure you’d agree that there are constant thoughts about the past and future running through your mind throughout your day. And if you’re constantly thinking about what happened or what’s going to happen then you’re not truly living in the present and experiencing life.

Meditation helps to control the mind and all the thoughts passing through it. It’s perfectly natural to have thoughts arise but it’s important to learn how to deal with them. In meditation, you acknowledge your thoughts and rather than focusing on them, you simply allow them to pass with ease. This allows you to focus on the present moment, the sensations in your body, your surroundings and anything else you experience at a particular point in time.

True happiness and peace comes from within and the more you connect with your inner self and spirit, the less affected by the external environment you’ll be. This is great news because you’ll become more aware of who are truly are, what makes you happy and all of your desires and wants. Rather than turning to external factors for happiness, you learn to reach within and this in turn brings fulfillment rather than short term gratification.

A regular meditation practice will help you to live a peaceful, content and meaningful life and you’ll experience immediate benefits when you incorporate meditation into your daily rituals.
