Unfortunately, stress is far to common in the average persons life. It seems as though there are never ending lists of things to do, places to be and people to help. The pressures of being a perfect parent, making those sales at work or making ends meets build up in the form of stress.
Fortunately, there is a effective way to combat stress!
What’s the secret to freeing yourself from the stress of everyday life?
Meditation.
As you know, there are many benefits to committing to a daily mediation ritual and stress reduction happens to be one of them. Through meditation, it is possible to calm your busy mind, release built up tension and experience inner peace.
How does meditation combat stress?
First off, meditation generally occurs in a quiet setting where interruptions are not present. The simple act of removing yourself from the hustle and bustle of day to day life already helps to reduce your stress levels. Then as you begin your meditating session the other benefits occur.
Benefits of Meditation Relating to Stress:
1. As you quiet your mind, your constant worries and tension begin to fade away. Your focus on the present helps to eliminate anxiousness and returns your body and mind to a healthy state.
2. Focusing on the present moment helps the body release toxins that are built up from daily stresses. As the toxins are released, the mind and body naturally relax and stress will be released.
3. Deep breathing helps the body to relax and as the body relaxes, the mind naturally follows.
It is very important to relax and reduce the stress of your daily life. As humans, we’re genetically programmed to respond to threats (such as stress) with the “fight or flight” reaction. Fight or flight is a physiological response to environmental stress. When our bodies sense danger, we prepare our selves for two options: to fight or run (flight). Both options require an influx of endorphins and energy to preserve our survival. Nerve cells are stimulated and fired, followed by the release of chemicals.
These chemicals are helpful when we’re in a life or death situation, but it is very unhealthy for the human body to constantly release these chemicals. If the human body is in a constant state of panic, the symptoms of stress start to manifest in the body as illnesses and serious health issues occur.
The more you practice meditating, the greater the benefits will be. To begin with, you might have troubles quieting your mind and letting go of your stress. Over time and with practice, meditating will become second nature and you’ll start to approach all components of your life in a calm, conscious manner which will in turn reduce (if not eliminate!) your stress further.
Many doctors are now recommending daily meditation to help reduce stress and cure stress related illnesses. Try meditating for 10 minutes a day and watch as your stress melts away!
